Exercise intensity impacts glycogen depletion

🍝 💦 To optimize your performance, adjust your nutrition accordingly, and ensure that you are appropriately fueled before engaging in high-intensity work.

🔥 During high-intensity interval-style workouts, your body uses up glucose, mainly in the form of glycogen, at a high rate.

🚴🏼‍♂️ A study looked at different exercises at varying intensities and durations and found that the rate of glycogen depletion is much higher during interval workouts, which are more anaerobic, compared to longer and easier workouts, which are more aerobic. This is because anaerobic workouts require higher rates of glycogen depletion to sustain anaerobic (without oxygen) glycolysis.
