Interval training: A great way to test your fitness

đŸ˜± The Open is coming, time to ramp-up those intervals. Intervals can be a great tool to test and improve your fitness.

⚠ But only when done right.

-

👉 There are many different ‘forms’ of interval training, but the basics are that high intensity is interspersed with a given amount of rest. An effective way of doing this is by providing a given timeslot (for instance 4 minutes) in which the athlete has to do the work, but also encompasses the rest period. This can then be repeated several times.

-

😆 So the harder you go, the more rest you have.

-

✅ Slide 2 provides an example where the workout is well-programmed for the athlete. Intensity can be maintained throughout the intervals, resulting is sufficient rest.

-

❌ Slide 3 shows the opposite, the athlete’s ego took over, too many reps or too much weight was used resulting in near maximal lactate and heart rate from the beginning and a blow up near the end.

-

🚀 You can use this type of training to test yourself throughout the season and to improve by adding more reps or weight each time you repeat this kind of training. Do it, it is a great mental push.
